The World Is Not That Flat Yet

A look below at the rates offered by some major Aussie Banks and M'sian Banks and you will be convinced that the world is not exactly as flat as Thomas Friedman described, as least not yet as local banks can still make a decent profit just by making a few clicks on funds transfer and account opening.

Aussie Bank M'sian Bank
Tenure ANZ C'wealth NAB HSBC PBB
3 or 4 * month 5.40% 5.40%* 5.40%* 3.95% 4.65%
6 month 6.00% 5.80% 4.00% 4.20% 4.85%
12 month 6.00% 6.00% 6.00% 4.35% 5.30%

Pitty the HSBC customers (myself included) but that should make the HSBC shareholders smile (again myself included).

QL

No doubt QL is a great stock, at least based on their growth and delivery so far. However, if you look at their share transactions for the past few weeks, instead of buying back shares to reward shareholders (via share dividend) as most companies do, QL has been disposing shares in open market and in the process made some decent profits.

Another interesting thing is one of their founders is also the founder of INTI college - can you imagine, move from education business into marine food, poultry and now oil palm !!

Still, have no doubt that QL will be a great stock, just won't buy them at this point of time.
